The beginning of the story of our house search

A lot of pretty amazing things have happened on the house front for us, but I usually wait 'til the story is all wrapped up to share, because you never really know for sure until things actually happen. But I just had to write today.

When we first looked at the house we are hoping to buy, it was the end of September. We looked through it with a lady and her husband. They treated us like friends, and we gathered they were Christians from their conversation. We looked through everything with them; then looked around alone while they were in their living room. When we came in from outside Jaret said, "Well, now we just have to pray that our house sells." The lady answered, "I was just praying that while you were out there."

The way she said it was full of confidence and faith. At the time we had an offer in on another house (contingent on the sale of ours), and that offer wasn't ending for another month. We had begun to question the amount we were paying for the first house because there was lots to do to it, but we felt we needed to see it to the end. So we contacted the lady and her husband about how we would love to buy their home, but we felt we needed to honor our offer on the other house. We asked if they would let us know if their house sold before the end of October, so we wouldn't have our hopes up. She wrote back and said that maybe they'd hold the house for us because they'd love it to go to a 'nice young couple like us'. We were amazed.

That month we just trusted because if our house sold then, we felt it was only right to buy the 1st house that we'd offered on, but we really liked the second one better. Amazingly, construction picked up at the end of our addition and the 'for sale by owner' sign was removed, as well as the street sign. Showings and calls on our house dropped off.

As the end of October neared, I contacted the lady to let her know where we were at. She wrote back and informed us that her husband had died suddenly of a heart attack one weekend when he was looking for their new home. She wrote that she felt that God had his hand in all the circumstances of us being interested in their house and that she felt it was all going to work out.

I was so sad for her. He had traveled most of their lives and had just accepted a job where he wouldn't be traveling. Their kids were both in college, and she was going to start a dream business. They had such excitement for their future, just like us as we looked at their home, and then everything changed. I just cried and cried.

She is an amazing testimony to me. She said in that first email about his death that she had a vision for her future back in an old home town being a part of a mission that was never fully taken over since they'd left. She talked of believing the Lord would use her to minister to others because of the experience of pain she was going through. It was amazing to me that she had such vision and hope only a week and a half after losing her husband.
